About us

The National Agency for Cancer Registration (NACR) is legally mandated to coordinate cancer registration in Switzerland, to collect the data recorded in the cantonal cancer registries and the Childhood Cancer Registry, to harmonise their collection and coding, and to ensure data quality. The NACR also processes the data, evaluates it, makes it available to the Federal Statistical Office and to researchers and is responsible for national health reporting on cancer.

Since 2018, the National Institute of Cancer Epidemiology and Registration (NICER) has been mandated by the Federal Department of the Interior (EDI) to carry out the tasks of the National Agency for Cancer Registration (NACR) based on Article 33 of the federal act on the registration of cancer diseases (Cancer Registration Act, CRA) and Article 36 of the ordinance on the registration of cancer diseases (Cancer Registration Ordinance, CRO). NICER had already performed a large number of the tasks mentioned in the CRA in the past and is the Swiss centre of expertise for national cancer registry data.
